Operation Compass – Italian Vehicles

This post covers the armoured fighting vehicles used by the Italians during Operation Compass.

No Vehicle Radios

Italian vehicles are not fitted with radios. This reduces the Command Group radius to 3”. All units must be within 3” of the leader to be included in a Command Group.

Autoblinda AB40 Armoured Car

ab-40_00The AB40 is a fast and reliable armoured car armed with twin machine guns.

Carro Veloce 3/33 (L3/35)

ansaldo-fiat-cv33-05Developed from the British Carden-Lloyd tankette the L3/35 is outdated and outclassed by the British Cruisers.

Carro Veloce 3 (L3/35)

cv335-01Armed with a Solothurn S–18/100 anti-tank rifle, this version has some Anti-Tank capability, but with a very limited range.

Reliability: Poor

Reaction: 4D (3D)

Weapon: Solothurn S–18/100 Anti-tank Rifle

  • Range: 2/5/10
  • FP:AT: 4D

Notes: Low profile.

Carro Veloce 3 (Flamethrower)

cv335This L3/35 is armed with a flamethrower. While potentially devastating, the flamethrower has a much shorter range than an anti-tank gun.

Weapon: Flamethrower

  • FP: 10D AT: 10D

Notes: Low profile. The flamethrower ignores all types of cover. Any unit hit by the flamethrower is automatically suppressed. Any time the vehicle rolls more 1s than 6s when firing, it runs out of ammunition and cannot fire again.

Carro Armato M11/39

m1139The M11/39 is an improvement over the CV3/33 with increased armour and a better gun, but the 37mm gun is restricted to a 180° fire arc.

Notes: The 37L40 gun is restricted to a 180° fire arc. It may fire its turret machine guns (FP: 5D) in a 360° fire arc.

Carro Armato M13/40

m1340A more effective design than the M11/39, the M13/40 has a 47mm gun mounted in its turret and can hold its own against the British Cruisers.

Jim has designed and developed a wide variety of games such as Warhammer Fantasy Battles, Warhammer 40,000, Star Wars Miniatures, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Dungeons and Dragons, Star Frontiers, GURPS, Star Wars, and TORG. Combat HQ is his latest set of rules. It grew out of Jim’s desire to play a fast moving World War Two miniatures game that not only required him to make decisions as an army commander, but also contained sufficient detail to capture the intricacies and complexities of World War Two combat in an entertaining manner.
